Horsebytes A last-minute sunbreak got me a decent photo at Edensgate for the "Scenic" assignment - good thing I hung out chatting for Julie for so long or I would have missed this shot from the gate!

Horsebytes Still hanging in there for the EPN photo challenge. Today's assigment was "water" - this is the dry version.

Okay, well, since I ran my mouth about it...
First assignment - "hair" - this might bit of a stretch, but this terracotta horse that advertises the Union Stables Building at 2200 Western Avenue does have a fine do.

Horsebytes Take on the EPN challenge - A photo a day of horses for an entire month - surely one of them will reveal your genius behind the lens! The sun shines on the PNW today for at least a little while -- I will take that as a good omen...

Horsebytes So you think you've got cojones and a heart? You still have two days to sign up to be a trainer for the Northwest Extreme Mustang Makeover. If you are wimp, like me, you can just become a fan and wish them luck.
The MHF in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management created the Extreme Mustang Makeover event to highlight the recognized value of mustangs through a national training competition. The event will give the public a unique opportunity to see the results of wild horses becoming trained mounts and then participate in a competitive bidding process to adopt one of these treasured animals.

Horsebytes I knew bats were "good," but 600 insects an hour? Whoa there! And that's just the little brown bat. Its the Townsends Big-ear that is attracting attention right now.

If you are a bat lover, or even just a biting insect hater, the recent rediscovery of a population of bats thought to have vanished from the San Juans is exciting news. The Townsend's Big-eared Bat has not been seen in San Juan County since 1940.

It was nineteen-ninety-something and my friend Maria was working for an under-budgeted New York arts program that was broadcast on the local public television station. She called me at work to ask me for a favor - would I show up to the Metropolitan
