UH Hilton getting $12.5 million face lift

The staid Hilton hotel on the University of Houston campus is getting a much needed makeover.

Over the next six months, the 86-room Hilton University of Houston Hotel and Conference Center will see $12.5 million in improvements - the property's first major renova...tion in more than three decades.

The hotel is part of the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management,
a top-ranked hospitality program that offers undergraduate and graduate
degrees in hotel and restaurant management and hospitality management.

Designed by Houston-based Portfolio Associates, the makeover will
include redesigned guest rooms, an updated conference center and a new
training lab.

The project is being funded by contributions from the Conrad N. Hilton Fund, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the University of Houston and hotel capital reserves.

Concurrently, a $2.5 million renovation is under way on the school's library and hospitality industry archives.

Fernando Bravé of Houston-based Bravé Architecture designed the space.

The collection includes papers, photos and other items from Conrad N. Hilton dating from the 1887 through the 1970s.

Nick and Vicki Massad of Houston-based American Liberty Hospitality gave $1.5 million toward the project.

The design of film titles has intrigued me from a very early age. Possibly since watching Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968. Or even earlier, seeing the opening sequence of John Frankenheimer’s Grand Prix. ...
