On the day of the Art Crawl, DiverseWorks will be hosting live music performances that feature local musicians performing the original
score to Malone’s new videos premiering as part of Third Ward is My Harlem.

Tierney Malone
Third Ward is My Harlem
November... 7 - December 19, 2009
Houston artist Tierney Malone transforms the DiverseWorks Main Gallery into a massive multi-media installation with his latest work, Third Ward is My Harlem. Drawing from his own Southern roots and experiences, Malone reframes American and creates non-linear narratives full of stoic nostalgia and sophistication that speaks to the experiences of much more than just one man.

About Tierney Malone
Tierney Malone was born in Los Angeles, grew up in Shipman, Miss. and Mobile, Ala., but has long called Houston his home. Malone
is a modern-day storyteller who creates works on paper and mixed media constructions. He uses the canon of African-American
history and pop culture to help him create contemporary tales about life. By invoking colorful and emotionally charged figures from
jazz, sports and literature, Malone makes powerful and sensitive works that are both visually beautiful and politically provocative.
Malone is a recipient of the 1997 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, given every two years to promising artists. His work has
been exhibited at DiverseWorks, Project Row Houses, and Robert McClain & Co. His works are in the permanent collection of the
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Kansas City Jazz Museum in Missouri. Malone designed the album cover for jazz musician
Don Byron's Romance with the Unseen on Blue Note Records. Malone was most recently commissioned to create a public mural in
York, AL for the Coleman Center.

DiverseWorks Artspace The Yes Men Fix The World
Cinema ArtsFestival Houston
Co-presented by DiverseWorks
Saturday, November 13, 7pm at Rice Media Center
Sunday, November 15, 1pm at Angelika Film Center

Winner of the Panorama Audience Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, The Yes Men Fix the World is a screwball true story about the ...satirical activist team the Yes Men. Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno's theatrical performances take place on unusual stages. Dressed in thrift-store suits, posing as top executives of corporations they consider criminal, the Yes Men lie their way into business conferences and parody their corporate targets in outrageous, yet strangely plausible ways. They do everything they can to wake up their audiences, at the conferences and through the media coverage of their pranks, to the danger of letting greed run our world.

Also, flickerlounge presents Jonas Mekas and his newest film, LITHUANIA AND THE COLLAPSE OF THE USSR. Forces of time, memory, change, and human will collide in Mekas’s new film. The work’s title refers to the historical time when the world watched as Mekas’s home country of Lithuania fought for independence from the stronghold of Soviet rule. With a video camera, Mekas recorded newscasts that played daily in 1991 on his television set at home. Footage includes reports of the Soviet Union’s use of ‘aggressive actions’ that called for Lithuania to back down, freedom demonstrations, interviews and statements made by top politicians, journalists, and analysts including Lithuanian President Vytautas Landsbergis, Deputy Prime Minister Kazimiera Prunskiene, Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, and United States President George H.W. Bush among others, as well as moving portraits of the Lithuanian people who were directly affected by the conflict. Mekas’s account, reported by news outlets in the United States, also reveals the shaping and shifting of political, economic, and social relations between Eastern Europe and the West at the time.
