THE GAME OF "WHITE ELEPHANT" GIFT EXCHANGE

All participants draw a number (from a hat, perhaps) to determine their order. An alternative to the drawing is to sit in a circle and take turns in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.
The participant with #1 unwraps any gift from the pile and then shows it to everyone. Each successive participant, in the order determined from the drawing, or in clockwise or counterclockwise order, can either 1) "steal" an already opened gift (if there's one they really like) or 2) be adventurous and go for a wrapped gift from the pile. If the participant chooses to steal, the person whose gift is stolen now repeats his turn and either 1) steals another person's gift (he cannot immediately steal back the gift that was just stolen from him) or 2) unwraps a new gift.
This cycle of stealing can sometimes continue for a long time, until a new gift is chosen, at which point the turn is passed to the participant with the next number from the drawing, or whoever is next in the circle, whichever arrangement is chosen.
Since items can be stolen, the item in your possession is not yours until the game is over. However, this is often amended with a rule declaring a gift "dead" or "safe" after it has been stolen a certain number of times (usually two or three). This helps the process go more smoothly (avoiding, for example, the hypothetical scenario of the same gift being stolen by every successive participant) and limits the disadvantage of being among the first to choose gifts. The game is over once all numbers have been withdrawn from the hat or all gifts are opened.

This "25 and up" uber-posh lounge will cater to a "Fortune 500, River Oaks-type" clientele, according to Hernandez. A "suit-and-tie" dress code and "exclusive pricing" will set the tone. "This is not a club," says Hernandez. "It's the next step."

In the late 1990s, she had major dance hits with the songs "In A Dream," "When I'm Gone," and "Can't We Try" (a duet with Collage and remake of the Dan Hill and Vonda Shepard 1987 hit song). All of these tracks appeared on her 1998 debut album entitled What Are You Lookin' At?. She released a second album, Instant Pleasure, in 2000. Instant Pleasure included the single "What U Did 2 Me" which reached #101 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2001. Her best charting success is in Canada, where she is still active performing shows at clubs. Her debut single "I Fell in Love" distributed by the then BMG Canada reached #1 on the Canadian Singles Chart while the follow-up "In a Dream" was at #6.

At this hip neighborhood sushi spot, it's mostly hipsters from Midtown lofts and sushi seekers tired of the same downtown haunts. Red lights cast a serene glow on the dark walls, lending a conspiratorial vibe to the intimate tables and booths. Service is casual and chatty.
The Fish goes beyond traditional sushi-bar fare with an assortment of cooked and non-fish Asian fusion items. Miso with clams and miso and avocado make for great starters. Katsu mushrooms are served piping-hot with a crispy-fried crust surrounding a shrimp and mushroom filling. The tenderloin roll features large wedges of supple beef stuffed with avocado or sweet potato and covered with a delicately sugared glaze. At the sushi bar, escolar is porcelain-white and amazingly buttery, while toro is delicate pink. Located on the far east side of the Montrose area in midtown Houston, The Fish, formerly Blowfish, is a hip venue patronized by hip up-and-comers. With a funky-chic décor of warm purples and midnight black around gleaming chrome, with mood lighting, it has a bit of the fish bowl feel to it, with little fin room whether you're there for a power lunch, designer dinner, or close-the-business cocktails with other savvy sharks. It offers a bit of dazzle in the presentation of creative Asian fusion fare like rich miso, world-class rolls, spicy scallops, sashimi and other exceptionally flavorful finger foods served at the crowded sushi bar, which is one of the best in the city.
