Saw the play last night and it was fantastic! It's playing tonight and Saturday, I know. Not sure about Sunday. Advice: See it! You won't regret that you spent your time that way. Poignant, funny, and a few tears!

Huntsville Madison County Public Library Expanding Cultural Horizons: The Study of Popular Culture

By the end of its five-year run on television, The Muppet Show had transformed its motley cast from fistfuls of felt to multi-media celebrities. Sophisticated and highly individuated, each of the Muppets embodied a conventional character type from classic televi...sion comedy. UA Huntsville’s Dr. Jennifer Garlen and UNA’s Anissa Graham, both active scholars in the field of popular culture studies, will use their new book, Kermit Culture: Critical Perspectives on Jim Henson’s Muppets, as a starting point for a lively discussion about the importance of pop culture and the ways in which movies, television, music, comics, and video games shape our everyday lives.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 17 at 2 p.m. Join Garlen and Graham in the Main Library’s auditorium for an examination of popular culture, and discover just how Kermit and the rest of the frogs, dogs, bears, and chickens became cultural icons with influences reaching far beyond the world of 1970s television comedy.
