Media Release- 9th June 2008.

Weld walk-in sends forest message to Premier Bartlett

Concerned Tasmanians will conduct a peaceful walk-in to the Lower Weld
Valley today, calling on new Premier David Bartlett not to give up on
State's High Conservation Value forests.

Around 50 people are expected to walk four kilometers to be...ar witness
to roading operations that will open up a logging coupe adjacent to
Fletcher's Eddy and Glovers Bluff, two features previously earmarked
for tourism development by Forestry Tasmania.

"This unique area of forest contains habitat for rare species,
cultural heritage, tourism opportunities and recreational values. The
Lennon Government consigned these forests to the woodchipper. Today,
these concerned Tasmanians are calling on new Premier David Bartlett
to take real steps to ensure that these forests, and the values they
support, are given the protection they deserve," said Huon Valley
Environment Centre spokesperson Will Mooney.

"The Huon Valley Environment Centre welcomes Mr Bartlett's commitment
to consider the issues around logging in Tasmania's High Conservation
Value forests. When carbon storage, biodiversity conservation,
tourism, and alternative industries such as leatherwood honey
production are taken into account, the value of these intact forests
to the Tasmanian community far outweighs their worth as woodchips."

"As he works to position Tasmania as a carbon conscious community, Mr
Bartlett cannot afford to ignore the outstanding value of our natural
and old growth forests, which lock-in more carbon than managed forests
and plantations."

"Forests Forever" benefit concert to celebrate the successes

Sunday June 8 - This Queens Birthday in Melbourne.

For over 9 hours of live music, Australian and International acts are coming together for a huge benefit concert at The East Brunswick Club in Melbourne to raise support, and to celebrate the movement to save T...asmania's and Australia's threatened forests this Queens Birthday weekend.

The massive lineup features:
local favorites; Direct Influence, The Casio Brothers, The Bedroom philosopher, Josh Owen, Milk, interstaters; Poetikool Justice (SA) Unleash the Nugget (TAS) Spindickle (SA) and Trillion (NZ) from across the tasman coming together for a complete afternoon and evening of entertainment and energy from comedy, accoustic soul and folk, through to hip hop, roots, rock, reagge, with a nice twist of electronic goodness to ensure the dancefloor is constantly moving with the good vibes.

"if protecting these ancient forests just because they're amazing and beautiful isn't the enough, they also store huge amounts of carbon which is released when they log them - protecting native forests is a simple cost effective, easy and responsible way to be addressing climate change"

All funds raised from the sales of 'Forests Forever' go towards continuing the campaign to protect Tasmania's high conservation value forests, including the Blue Tier, Styx, Upper Florentine and Lower Weld Valleys and The Tarkine.
