by my friend Philip Camara regarding some issues that have been
hounding our idol Prof Randy.My 2 centavos is that Prof Randy, not
legitimizing GMA's congressional run by giving her a real opponent is
doing the right thing.
Randy Stands Tall
Patricia
Evangelista doesn't get it. Just as those who never run in a locali...ty
don't get it. David didn't walk away from Goliath. David decided to
choose his arena in slaying the monster of Philippine politics.
As
one who has run in a locality I completely understand and support
Randy's decision to enlarge the arena of battle. As many who have
understood the essence of our politics, Randy sees the need for a whole
system change if we are to survive as a nation.
It
is not like Randy to be a pawn in someone else's agenda. Randy believes
that what is sickening and weakening the country is toxic local
politics characterized by petty patronage, cheap and loud
entertainment, money for machinery and deals with corrupt local leaders
of block vote organizations.
Being
a national figure Randy is much better suited to challenge the whole
trickle down Superiority-based political sysytem that is the mother of
all toxic local politics. He has written quite clearly in the past on
the opposing principle of Subsidiarity as an organizing principle for
national renewal. He seeks to work with others to translate what that
means in concrete policy initiatives.
I
understand Randy is very busy going around the country giving talks in
just what it takes to cure the nation's ills. He participates in fora
to bring true reform to many aspects of Philippine governance like the
one on Fiscal Subsidiarity next month.
Subsidiarity
Movement and Kilusang Pinatubo are one with Randy in pushing the
struggle for systems change through constituency building in support of
the best Senatorial slate and local candidates but more important in
influencing the outcome of games to alter our basic law, our
constitution.
Randy David would have
been caught up in the dynamics of local politics had he pursued GMA.
Just as critics laugh at GMA's ability to stoop low for power, Randy
chooses to stand tall.

Pio Cmon! Have a little Chutzpa Prof. David! You were destined for these types of battles.. What did you expect? You would come this far so you could just keep doing the same familiar role you have grown accustomed to year in and year out? Your detractors expect you to be the calculating academic. And you are indeed one... and there is plenty good in that.. But its time to show that there is MORE to Prof. David than what people know of him through the years. It is time to mix it up, answer the call of history, get your starchy white collar dirty.. and along the way, perhaps grow deeper as an individual. Please don't exchange the great story for a familiar one! You have been down the road you are choosing NOW many times. You know exactly where you are going with this familiar path. Well take a walk on the wild side of faith and see where this rabbit hole goes. It may change your life and our country's history as well... Imagine the headlines.. Prof. David agrees to go toe to toe vs GMA little Goliath! ! I would have loved to see that fight regardless of the outcome! And that in itself is a great story.. and we all live for great stories.. You would have stood up to GMA and for once made her accountable for her Presidency.. Your town debates would be telecast nationally. It would be compelling drama. We would have loved to see her annoyance at your gall.. And if you do WIN... I mean WOW!!.. Now that goes down as a story to remember for generations!! You would have had an opportunity for immortality in this noble quest! And the wonderful thing is.. there is already a preceding story in the distant past similar to yours and we still remember it... David already WON vs. Goliath.. Now its your turn..
