Economic globalization has created a world of new opportunities, and in many respects strengthened the link between economic development and peace building. Because of its potential role in promoting sustainable economies, the private business sector has become a vital actor in peacebuilding. Although it is often seen ...as a ruthless actor, corporations can both prevent conflict and maintain peace in unstable states. How? It is a question of will and potential. Can companies really do well and at the same time do good?

Speaker: Antero da Silva. The first Student Peace Prize Laureate from 2009. Da Silva has fought for peace in East-Timor.
Lars-Erik Skaansar has worked for several years with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR), the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs(OCHA) and with the Nor...wegian Refugee Council.
He has experience from a tenfold of conflict areas including such as DRC Congo, the former Yugoslavia, Sierra Leone, Israel/Palestine, Uganda, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Peace negotiations are crucial in the process of building bridges between opponents. Without an arena for dialogue and understanding, peace agreements may not be more than utopian ideas. But how are negotiations initiated? How is it possible to convince bitter enemies to agree on the principles of peacebuilding? And which factors are required in order to ensure a lasting peace treaty?

In parts of the world women are still regarded as less worth than men. How can we empower women instead of victimizing them?
