ITOYA announced on Earth Day 2009 that a recycling program was being developed for the Art Profolio line of products. Made exclusively of Polypropylene, the plastic materials of the Art Profolio are fully recyclable to make new albums and other consumer products. The opaque black covers of the Art Profolio are alread...y made from some recycled Polypropylene and a formal recycling program of the albums is currently being developed to increase the content of post consumer recycled materials.

One of the challenges of recycling is collecting and shipping the materials, and ITOYA has learned first hand the obstacles involved in such an undertaking. Like many consumer product sold in North America, our Art Profolio books are manufactured in China. Recently, China has enacted stringent “anti-dumping” laws due to abuses in importation of electronic waste from other countries that were being shipped to China and illegally dumped in their landfills. This “anti-dumping” law affects our efforts to collect and return the post-consumer Polypropylene materials needed to produce our Art Profolio albums. ITOYA will continue to work with Chinese officials to permit our legal importation of collected Polypropylene for recycling.

In the meantime, we have been collecting recyclable albums in stockpiles at our Carson, California facility with the intent of eventually using them to create new Art Profolios. Our stringent quality control efforts, both in China and the United States, ensure that manufacturing defects are caught before they hit retail shelves. These albums that fail quality inspections will be the first to be recycled under this program.

As we develop a collection system in North America, and as we are permitted to ship the old albums back into China, we look forward to announcing our formal recycling program with specifics.

In the meantime, we thank you for the countless emails and letters of encouragement in our recycling efforts. We know recycling of Art Profolio albums is the right thing to do and we will continue our efforts to efficiently and legally enact this program.Read More

Despite the heat wave, the 2009 Summer Car Classic show at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA went off bigger and better than before. This years event included aircraft and watercraft in addition to the usual automobiles on display.
