Sunday, July the 27th just above Barillas, a 16 year old boy driving a minivan was pulled over by the police. THe boy did not have a driver´s licence and did not want to get out of the vehicle. The Police forced him out of the minivan and was not able to put the emergency brake on. The minivan full of people rolled do...wn the hill and killed four passengers. Now the people of barillas are blaming the police for the death of the passengers. The people destroyed the police station and burned one of the police trucks. The police got away quicly otherwise they could have been linched to death. Today, monday, there are police everywhere in San Mateo. They arrived yesterday afternoon and they are probably waiting here to see how they can control the situation in Barillas. A truck of soldiers also arrived. More to come stay tunned!!! Read More

A mediados de Julio del 2008, en San Mateo Ixtatan y el area norte de Huehuetenango han habido varios derrumbes en carreteras que ha deshabilitado el transporte public de Huehue a Barillas. El pasado fin de semana muchas personas que viajaban se quedaron en los lugares en que se econtraban sin llegar a su destino. Much...os tuvieron que caminar de la aldea Nuk'a para San Mateo Ixtatan.
Tambien durante este mes han habido constantes apagones de luz electrica dejando a los hogares sin energia durante un par de horas durante la noche. Esto tambien debido a las fuertes lluvias que afectan esta area del Departamento de Huehuetenango. Read More
