What is the feminine voice of Australian folk music?
This performance takes you inside the kitchens and lounge rooms, bedrooms, laundries and the outdoor spaces where music was and is made.
Songs from field recordings, old manuscripts and family songbooks combine with soundscapes and artwork to recreate the rich imagin...ative landscape of women's music.
Join Jenny Gall and Ian Blake at Helen Maxwell Gallery on November 18th at 8pm for an hour of sensory exploration in collaboration with the late Jenny Lawrence, textile artist; and designer Julia Collin.
Adults $10, children free. Drinks and nibbles provided.

THREE NIGHTS AT THE BLEEDING HEART
Written by John Shortis
Directed by Nick Byrne
Performed by
Ian Blake, John Shortis, Moya Simpson and Queenie van de Zandt
Deep down in the subterranean world, is a cabaret room called The Bleeding Heart where those tend...er souls who gave it its name have traditionally gathered. During the Howard years, when hearts bled profusely, it bloomed. Now in the new political era, it’s on the market, looking for a buyer from the new generation of bleeding hearts. But is there such a thing?
The current owners don’t think so, so they’re staying open for three final nights. But a voice from the venue’s past is determined to maintain the bleeding rage.
The satirists decide to go for broke, to get to the heart of the big issues of the New Order, the unresolved, and the unchanged.
After eleven years of lampooning the Prime Miniature, John Howard, writer John Shortis now points his devastating musical and lyrical wit at the era of Kevin of Queensland.
In this very theatrical production, regular comedy team Shortis and Simpson are joined by multi-instrumentalist Ian Blake and actor/singer/comedian Queenie van de Zandt.
