Racing to Save the Bay!

A free concert, Schooners & Crooners, featuring Schooner Time, Them Eastport Oyster Boys and Inishowen will be presented at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, in Fell's Point.

Schooner Time is the bluegrass band from the schooner Martha White. Captain Bob Kay, First ...Mate Cherri Reese, Bob Hamlet and Elaine "The Boss" Hamlet combine their love of bluegrass music and sailing on old wooden ships. Schooner Time, Bob Kay & Cherri ReeseSchooner Time will be sailing to Baltimore aboard the Martha White from their home port of Chestertown, Maryland. When they sail, they go on "Schooner Time" - when the wind, rain, tide and the many breakdowns allow. The only thing fast on "Schooner Time" is bluegrass music! Schooner Time donates all proceeds to organizations working to save the Chesapeake Bay.

The Maritime Republic of Eastport's own musical sons, Jefferson Holland and Kevin Brooks, otherwise known as Them Eastport Oyster Boys, provide a knee tapping, toe-slapping, comical musical history tour of Annapolis, Eastport and the Chesapeake through original songs and stories. No other musical group captures the flavor of past and present Annapolis like Them Eastport Oyster Boys. Through their songs and stories, you are taken back to the days of the skipjacks when life was slow and oysters and crabs were the centerpiece of life. And then, Kevin and Jefferson bring you back to today's Land of Pleasant Living for a peek into the life of those who treasure this unique bit of America along the Chesapeake Bay.

Inishowen is the husband and wife team of Henry Cohen and Lynn Colgan Cohen, along with their good friends Ron Peters and Eileen Bozarth. They are known for proficiency, versatility in their music and great rapport with their audiences. Inishowen's repertoire is drawn primarily from the rich musical heritage of the seafaring nations — especially Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Canada and the United States.

Come early and take a stroll along the waterfront to see the schooners that have arrived!

Inishowen We performed Colonial era music at Rock Ford Plantation's 2009 Encampment. Rock Ford was the home of General Edward Hand, a medical doctor who fought in the war of independence under George Washington. It was really neat to perform tunes from that era - the same tunes to which George Washington himself danced - at the ...home of his good friend General Hand. Henry shot these photos.

Michael Hochheiser I could be prejudiced as Henry's cousin, but these folks are incredibly talented. Well worth a drive (about 250 miles for me) to hear them.
