At the end of a very tough few weeks for International Bird Rescue Research Center's staff and volunteers, working around the clock to save seabirds from the Oregon algae foam, we heard from Alex Diamant, a Sacramento Resident who turned 10 years old on November 14th.

International Bird Rescue Research Center This large White Pelican came into our Cordelia clinic a week ago from a local lake and was entangled in fish line and had a 8 inch fishing lure with 3 sets of 3 prong hooks embedded in its stomach and under its wing. The bone was exposed but after stabilization and surgery the bird is amazingly flying in the pelican ...aviary. It is still in guarded condition as there was a lot of tissue damage but it looks pretty good for now. This is a very aggressive large male bird and many of the staff and volunteers have bite wounds to prove it.

How horrible to see.hear what happened to this poor Peli! Awful how humans are so IGNORANT, LAZY/CARELESS to realize the terrible impact they have on our wildlife! Thank heavens for places like IBRRC to help them, their staff, the volunteers who do this out of the goodness of their heart & love for animals & for those that help out by donating to IBRRC ~ which is a way we all can help!!! ;)

International Bird Rescue Research Center On Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 16 more birds were released from the Sea Slime '09 event. IBRRC helped treat over 400 birds from the Pacific Northwest algae sea foam event. Scientists believe the toxic foam killed 10,000 birds.

I feel privileged to be able to help these birds even in a small way. The three days I have worked so far have been tiring but well worth it.
