- Company Overview:
- The International Fund for Africa (IFA) operates on the principle of Ahimsa (nonviolence and respect for all life) and a deep and abiding belief in biocentricity and the interconnectedness of all life. IFA promotes non hierarchical and non-exploitative relationships between human beings and all other life forms.
- Mission:
- International Fund for Africa recognizes that there are many complex issues that need to be addressed in Africa. In particular, IFA is especially concerned about the suffering of both humans and nonhumans on the continent. Therefore, our mission is to alleviate much of the suffering by working on behalf of those in Africa that cannot help themselves -- whether they are human or nonhuman.
- Products:
- IFA projects include:
Neonatal and Pediatric Medicine Project: IFA is helping babies and children by donating life saving equipment including incubators, photo-therapy machines, suction machines, and oxygen concentrators to Yekatit 12 hospital and Ghandi Memorial Hospital (the oldest maternity hospital in the city) in Addis Ababa. IFA has plans to help establish new neonatal and pediatric services in city and rural hospitals, improve existing programs, and to establish an ongoing volunteer program for visiting U.S. doctors to participate in the delivery of health care and training of medical professionals to advance care of the newborn.
Rural Medicine Project is focused on upgrading and improving the practice of rural medicine by providing medical equipment and supplies, ambulance and patient transport services, and training to increase the number of qualified medical personnel.
Homeless Animals Project: IFA is currently working with government organizations to help large masses of homeless dogs iis in the process of establishing an equine sanctuary with an on-site veterinary clinic in conjunction with the University of Jimma's School of Veterinary Medicine. IFA is working to create a model that will eventually be replicated throughout Ethiopia.
IFA is working to rectify a deficiency in veterinary knowledge and training for companion/small animal care. A comprehensive small animal curriculum is being established at the University of Jimma with the help and support of U.S. Veterinary Doctors that have experience in setting up small animal veterinary education. IFA is also seeking U.S. veterinary schools to explore sending members of their faculties to help set up a teaching program for small animal medicine in Ethiopia.
IFA promotes the adoption of a Vegan diet/lifestyle because it is the most important action that individuals can undertake to reduce human health problems and suffering of animals while simultaneously decreasing one's ecological foot print on our fragile planet.
