Kristina - All of the residence halls are great, so it depends on what you are looking for. We have wonderful, living/learning communities where you can live with folks who share a particular interest. Those are spread throughout the residence halls. We have a quiet building (Daum) for those who prefer less noise when studying. If you are ... Read Moreactive in sports, you'll probably want to choose a West side hall (Rienow, Slater, Quad or Hillcrest) that is close to the Field House. If you are more independent and want to cook for yourself, we have shared kitchens in Mayflower. No matter where you go, the experience of living on campus is SO valuable!

University of Iowa Housing WOW...what a game...what a turnaround! That game and Halloween all in one weekend was too scary! Tonight, the band Third Eye Blind performs in the IMU. Tickets are $30 and are available at the University Box Office. They are famous for the hits "Semi-Charmed Life" and "Jumper." They are touring supporting their new release "Ursa Major."

Monica I have been asked to move out of my dorm due to some bad choices that I made. I was inform that I was going to get refunded but it was going to be charge to U-bill on Nov. 1. I check my U-bill this morning and I was wondering if we are charged for canceling our contact. Because I'm suppose to get around $1,900 back instead i'm getting $200. So my question is what was i charged for?

Alice - Are you a current resident? If you are, the answer is rather complicated. I've posted a note called "Canceling your Housing Contract." It is information from the student handbook. The housing contract is a binding contract and you are subject to it's terms and conditions. It cannot be canceled without sufficient reason. I hope you chose to stay with us! There are many advantages to living on campus!

Alice - I've pasted the information about how to get released for financial hardship below. If you are having roommate issues, perhaps you could talk to your Resident Assistant. Hope this helps!

Financial
To request a contract release for financial reasons, go to Contracts and Assignments, 4141 Burge Hall to obtain a petition for release. Petitions with the following condition will be considered: catastrophic change in your financial situation after your contract became binding (involuntary loss of a job by you or your parent, large medical bills not covered by insurance, parent's death, etc.).

Written documentation must be provided for evidence of loss. You may be asked to set up an appointment with the Contract Release Review Committee. If the committee recommends release from your housing contract and Contracts and Assignments concurs, you will be notified by Contracts and Assignments. You will need to complete cancellation forms at Contracts and Assignments.

If Not Approved...
If you do not qualify to be released from your contract for the above reasons (i.e., registration, marriage, medical, financial) you may cancel your contract by paying 80% of the remainder of your contract.

To participate in the 80% buyout option, go to Contracts and Assignments, 4141 Burge Hall. A Contracts and Assignments staff member will calculate 80% of the remainder of your contract. They will then provide you with an 80% Buyout Cancellation Form to complete.

If Approved...
Once your request for release has been approved, go to Contracts and Assignments, 4141 Burge Hall to complete a cancel form. This will begin the cancellation process, canceling your room and, if applicable, meal plan, and Mayflower parking. After the cancellation form is completed at Contracts and Assignments, you will need to properly check out at your residence hall, including turning in your keys within 24 hours at your 24-hour desk. You will also complete an address forwarding card at the desk for your U.S. mail. You must change your residing address on ISIS.
