Rocky Top Raceway
410 Sprint Cars set to invade RTR August 14th!
By: T. J. Layne

COAL GROVE, OH-The most anticipated race in the six year history of Rocky Top Raceway is coming on Friday, August 14th with the “Les Boggs Open Wheel Shootout”. The race will feature the first ever appearance of the 410 outlaw Sprint Cars paying $2,000 to ...win, Mod Lites-$1,000 to win, and Modifieds-$650 to win.

410 Sprint Car racing has long been considered one of the greatest spectacles in all of motorsports with unbelievable speeds and “on the edge of your seat” action. These cars only weigh 1,200 pounds and have over 900 horsepower. Only Formula One cars have a greater horsepower to weight ratio. For the first time ever, this spectacle will be coming to the tri-state region.

Race fans in attendance will also get to see a new overall track record set. Up to now, the fastest lap ever clocked in time trials at RTR was a 13.471 second lap (100.215 mph) by Josh McGuire in 2006. The 410 Sprints are expected to bring the track record down into the 11 second bracket with average speeds of 115 mph around the 3/8ths mile track.

In addition to the exciting Sprint Car action, one of the largest races in the country for the Mod Lites is also on the card. For the second time this season, RTR will host a 30 lap, $1,000 to win Mod Lite show. 33 Mod Lites from Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Illinois, and North Carolina were in attendance for the last $1,000 to win show back in April. The always exciting Modifieds will also be racing for a regular $650 to win show.

General admission for this must see race is only $14 with kids (7-12) $2, kids six and under free, and pit passes $28. Gates open at 4:00 pm with hot laps starting the nights racing action at 7:30 pm. Additional catch fence will be put up and additional safety features added for this race. Rocky Top Raceway

Rocky Top Raceway We are hoping for good weather on Friday, May 15th as we are preparing to host the GCP Engines Twin 30's!

Rocky Top Raceway

Rocky Top Raceway
The GCP Engines Twin 30's is the longest running special event race at the Rocky Top Raceway. The first Twin 30's race was held in 2005 and was sponsored by Accent Health Care. That race featured a $1,500 to win Modified show and a $800 to win Limited Late Model show.

The race was not held in 2006 but returned in 20...07 with it's current format featuring a 30 lap, $2,000 to win Late Model show and a 30 lap, $1,000 to win Modified show. Since then, this race has been the largest Modified race held at RTR each year.

In 2008, GCP Engines partnered up with RTR to become the official race sponsor, making it the GCP Engines Twin 30's. With the GCP sponsorship, this race was taken to new heights as last years race had the highest overall car count of the season and was the highest attended race of 2008. 21 Late Models and 36 Modifieds were in attendance.

While a lot of money is on the line, the GCP Engines Twin 30's is truly a race for the fans. Race fans get to see two special event races at regular admission prices. In one of the biggest bargains of the year, Adult general admission will be $12, kids (7-12) general admission $2, and pit admission $25.
