The time has come again for CSMA's Annual Open Show! Artists are invited to join in what has become a holiday arts tradition in Ithaca. Submit work and take part in a celebration of the creativity of our vibrant community. Emerging and young artists, as well as established artists, are e...ncouraged to participate. This is a wonderful opportunity to show work in a large and well respected art venue, with an opening reception on Gallery Night, Friday December 4.
Submission deadline: 5 PM, November 16, 2009.
Exhibition dates: Friday, December 4, 2009 (Gallery Night) through Friday, January 29, 2010. Work must be delivered by 5 PM, Monday, November 30th, in order to be included in the show.
All mediums accepted. Please contact the curator for specifics about size requirements. Note that the show will include many artists, and thus exceptionally large scale pieces are not appropriate. Dance/performance may be considered but must be approved by curator. Film/video artists must provide all equipment/electronics. CSMA does not provide televisions, computers, etc.
Special note: We are looking for artists to fill the front window space of the CSMA building. Works should maintain visibility of the interior while maximizing the potential of a large window space.
Street, lowbrow, graffiti, outsider and underground artists are encouraged to submit.
If you have a question about the appropriateness of your art at CSMA, please contact the curator. The curator has full discretion over what will be shown, and placement within the exhibit.
How to submit artwork to CSMA:
Artists may submit up to 5 pieces. Digital submissions are strongly preferred, either as email attachments, or as image files on CD. Electronic submissions should be configured to 150 dpi, as jpg or a similar format. Please do not send website addresses or links. Appointments may be scheduled with the curator for showing work.
All pieces should be labeled with title, date, artist's name, size of work, and asking price.
A check for $25 must be received by CSMA before work can be considered. Checks are made payable to the Community School of Music and Arts.
The curator will decide which of your pieces will be displayed. You may indicate a preference but the final decision is the curator's. You are guaranteed one piece in the show. If space permits, more than one might be displayed, at the curator's discretion. Please submit your strongest, recent work (1 to 2 years old). Please be aware that CSMA is a family venue, and all questions about appropriateness should be directed to the curator.
Please note:
Entry fee is not refundable.
No fee waivers.
All work must be original.
CSMA reserves the right to photograph works of art for publicity.
Artists provide their own insurance; CSMA does not provide insurance for artwork displayed.
Artists are responsible for the timely drop-off and pick-up of their work.
Artists receive 80% of sales; CSMA retains a 20% commission.
