Downtown Ithaca The City of Ithaca has proposed taking away the 1 hour free parking in Downtown garages. Also, forgiving that first parking ticket may go away. Tell us what you think...

The ideas coming out of the city lately have boggled the mind. Make parking less convenient? Rip out all the trees on the Commons? Create a mini-Cayuga Lake? Fine people for not registering their bicycles? WTF?? How about these novel ideas: Beef up our economic developments efforts to lure more businesses downtown. Lower property and business taxes. Create more hotel rooms. etc.

Please don't do it! All of us with kids would basically have to stop coming down there. I actually go out of my way to go to the parking garage because it's easier to get in and out with kids and the first hour is free - which makes a huge difference to me. Like other people said, all the quick little errands, the stopping for lunch, all of that ... Read Morewill end. We already avoid the Commons as much as possible because of the huge smoke clouds around the play area. This would basically end all our trips downtown except for special events.

We'll work on it for next year. Maybe we can have a spooky house and a haunted house at different levels for kids and teens/adults. Thanks for the feedback. Blame in on the Australian!
