J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. Thanksgiving time marks the beginning of our nursery's big dig. We are thankful for this bountiful harvest of more than a million trees that will soon be on their way to nurseries across the continent and around the world. On this day, we are most thankful for our customers, and for our tireless production crews who di...g into the gargantuan task and make it happen. "Our customers want hardy trees they will not have to replace. Crimson Spire grows well in our demanding Nebraska environment. The narrow habit and dense foliage are also attributes that are in demand." - Phil

Last night, HH and I attended our church’s oh-so-swanky auction at the Skirvin Hotel, so, Friday, my husband asked me what I was planning to wear.

J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. We continue to be in autumn overload here at J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. While the best of the fall color is gone with the wind (and the rain), we captured these images to share with you. Still ablaze - Sourwood, Stewartia and Paperbark Maple, to name a few.

These pics are so cool. I LOVE the Japanese Maple. I wish I could grow one here. It's just not wet enough...
You look so good, too...

Kim, all you need is afternoon shade and some drip irrigation - oh and did I mention well-drained, loamy slightly acid soil? Well, my point is that you have to work at it a bit, but you CAN grow Japanese Maples in your realm. Next time you are in Portland, let's rendezvous at the Japanese Garden.

Yes indeed, Linda, you do have an eye for a good dog. Although I don't suppose Cody will be welcome at the Japanese Garden tomorrow, perfect or not. This photo was taken when Mike and I did a segment on fall color for his television show, in that pretty woodsy park on Iron Mountain.

J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. Thanks Martha! Still missing you when the ASLA meeting rolls around each year, but Daryl Brach, "the new guy," takes good care of us at the EXPO. This year our exhibit group included 11 booths, and one of our great customers from the Great Lakes region, Kaneville Nursery, brought in two magnificent 6-inch+ caliper shad...e trees. Collectively, we created our own little urban forest inside Chicago's McCormick Center. Read all about it in "Clippings,", attached.
Lining up 16 exhibitors for next years ASLA meeting in Washington, DC. Be there!
