As an old guy who's lived different places and spent my entire 20s exploring how to find a professional path in writing, then photography, and then writing again... here's my 2 cents.
Don't move to NY because it fits into some kind of plan. If you love being there more than being anywhere else, move there. Otherwise, figure out where that place is that you feel most at home, most excited about life, and move there, not to NY.

Your love for it shows. I really liked the Mormon LGTB Portraits... There is someone close to me it made me think of and remind me of how much I love and respect him for who he is. If only everyone could do that.

That was kind of the idea behind the project. I thought it was especially important at BYU at that time in history...Good for you for showing your love and respect for your friend. He is lucky to have you I am sure!
