JAPANESE STREETS

JAPANESE STREETS Big expensive glamor brands are retrenching everywhere. Who still wants to pay $3K for a handbag? Does this mean street fashion will become more important? To me it stands for real clothes on real people—a sentence that has been on my e-mails since 2002. Street fashion is like the slow food movement. Interestingly, this article suggest so, too.

Benoit Tessier/Reuters Veteran French couturier Christian Lacroix was a favourite of conspicuous comsumers, but had to file for bankruptcy protection in a Paris court this week.

JAPANESE STREETS UNIQLO’s Japanese advertising has been fun and creative from its early days. Their ads sometimes remind me of what Apple does with its advertising. I love this Tokyo Fashion Map.

JAPANESE STREETS It has been a while since I last shot in Osaka’s Minami-Horie, so I went to my usual hang-out in this trendy fashion area to look for the latest trends.

JAPANESE STREETS Cropped pants have been extremely popular with women the past few years. More and more men have taken to them as well. Especially this Summer, cropped pants for men are huge. Pardon the pun, but they’re cropping up everywhere.

JAPANESE STREETS Last May I shot a group of 8 friends, all of them lolita fans. I wasn’t able to upload all photos because the brand information for many of them was missing. These missing shots were finally uploaded today! See the newly added images on the link below. If you missed the May images, go to http://www.japanesestreets.com/photos/categories.php?cat_id=278

I shot each and every person in the group individually. Because there were so many of them, I didn’t write down their information at the time. We would do that later by e-mail or on the phone. We finally got that done, and today the images went live.

I am always on the lookout for stuff that is cool, beautiful, fun, wacky or attracts my attention in some other way. Recently I found three that just made me smile.

We are in the middle of the Rainy Season in Japan. Umbrella time! I often use the cheap vinyl ones that you buy at convenience stores. They are cheap, but impossible to distinguish from other umbrellas. Now there is a fix!
