The first picture of Spicer is by Edgar Austin; the second one should really be seen in color, it is by the New England photographer Kent Bowker and was first published in A SECRET LOCATION ON THE LOWER EAST SIDE, the history of mimeo magazines that begins with Spicer's SF-based "J"--but here he is, on the beach at Cape Cod or somewhere, hauling ... See Morethe biggest book in the world; finally at the end one of the "seance" pictures organized by Spicer and Robin Blaser, and photographed by Robert Berg--it is from the same session that oriduced the famous photo of Spicer kissing a bust of himself, the photo Wesleyan used for the cover of POET BE LIKE GOD: JACK SPICER AND THE SAN FRANCISCO RENAISSANCE.
