Jakfish Jakfish supports the Teton Boulder Project in its upcoming silent auction!
The Teton Boulder Project is a nonprofit, volunteer effort to build a bouldering park near downtown Jackson, in Phil Baux Park at the base of Snow King Mountain. The bouldering area will commemorate the role of the Tetons and Teton climbers in mountaineering history, as well as enhance the community atmosphere of the p...ark by giving residents and passers-by a place to climb for free in town. The Project is a grass-roots partnership between the climbing community, the Town of Jackson, and the Teton County Parks and Recreation Department that celebrates the past, present and future of Teton climbing. The Town of Jackson and Teton County have allotted $10,000 in matching funds to assist with the initial phase of the project. Teton Boulder Project has kicked off a $250,000 fundraising campaign to raise the money necessarily to construct the park and memorial. Teton County Parks and Recreation Department has developed preliminary plans for the site, which include a traversing wall, man-made boulders, and places where families and others can watch children and climbers at play. The goal is to incorporate the rich history of Teton Climbing into the bouldering area in an interactive way. Teton Boulder Project will host a fundraising event Sept. 26, 2009, at Center for the Arts with climbing legends Jack Tackle, Conrad Anker and Steve House. A similar bouldering project was built in Bozeman, Mont., and has met with great success.
