James Mullinger began his stand up career in 2005, and quickly made a name as being one of the best new comedians on the circuit. In his first eighteen months he reached the final of three major national comedy competitions. They were: Jimmy Carr's Comedy Idol (which resulted in a performance alongside Carr at The Comedy Store that appeared on Carr's DVD 'Stand Up'), You Must Be Joking at the Newbury Comedy Festival and Your Comedy Stars at the Edinburgh Festival.
In July 2005 James performed at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal. Canada's best-selling newspaper The National Post described him as "a dashing comic". In February 2006 and 2008 he performed at the Leicester Comedy Festival and will also be appearing in 2009.
He has written jokes for the 4 Radio Weekly Show hosted by Frankie Boyle and Mark Dolan as well as journalism for periodicals as diverse as The Guardian, GQ, Men's Health, Radio Times and The Erotic Review. Over the past eight years he has interviewed dozens of luminaries including Rachel Weisz, Scarlett Johansson, Richard Gere, Sheryl Crow, Will Young, January Jones, Olivia Williams and written features on topics as diverse as legendary photographer Terence Donovan, penis enlargement devices, having a Brazilian wax and stand-up.
James continues to perform at clubs in the UK and around the world. He has appeared on a handful of TV shows including UKTV G2 comedy panel show Street Cred Sudoku with Robin Ince and Sue Perkins. You may also have seen him hosting a viral clip show on cable channel Sumo TV or as the devil in Paramount Comedy’s sitcom Angelo’s.
He is resident compere at two of the best small comedy clubs in London - Theatre 503 at The Latchmere in Battersea and Upstairs at the Masons in Mayfair. Recent acts that he has introduced include Stephen Merchant, Danny Bhoy, Michael McIntyre, Rhod Gilbert and Stewart Lee.
James is married and lives in South London.
