What could anyone say about writer’s block to make it interesting? Talismanic phobia, coffee, and writer’s pause. Brooks used the word talismanic phobia to describe his fear when he stares at a blank page. Jon attributed the whole Enlightenment period to the invention of coffee shops, “Voltaire ...drank 40 cups at day.” And Tiffany said that when she calls it a pause instead of a block, “it shrinks it to about THIS BIG and I step on it.”
