Janet Rosen Some gift ideas for aikido folks or those who love them.

Janet Rosen An act of shameless self-promotion: three quiltscapes are up for sale. I wish I had wall space for all of them...

Janet Rosen Anybody looking here? ... It's ok, I haven't posted here in a while... but there are some new quiltscapes posted on my website.

Janet Rosen Three of my quiltscapes are on sale now. They were done while I was playing with new techniques, so all my attention was on the design and sewing and I didn't bother with batting and backing fabric. They are as nice as all the others where it counts, in front, but not so nice on the back. All have lovely fabric "frames" and are ready to hang on dowels (not included).

Janet Rosen The last quiltscape is getting "framed" before dinner. This is the newest and with Jo's help I selected the framing fabrics today.

The oil pastels are on a real learning curve. Working from Peter Boylan's delicious photo of sunset on Lake Michigan, the water practically did itself to my surprise and joy, but I've reworked the sky three times and am pretty much at square one. Which tells me I need a fundamental shift in my approach to it. That's ok...; 1. I'm brand new to the medium and 2. I always get stuck in the middle of paintings anyhow.Read More

Janet Rosen I've just revised the Zanshin Art "Quiltscapes" page to reflect the new direction of my work. The Dick Blick order of more oil pastels and supports, mediums, etc. arrived today, so I'm going to be back at the easel starting this weekend.

Janet Rosen I'm having a ball now with the quiltscapes - figured out it's ok to just play with the fabric & let it help me find pictures, instead of trying to reproduce my paintings. And a woodworker friend is going to use his scraps of interesting wood to make lovely hanging dowels for displaying them!

Things are good. I finally have a serious inquiries for aikido gear (a custom bag & a baby gi!after a long dry spell. Getting regular studio time & realizing where I need to go w/ these quiltscapes (a little more abstract/color field) to differentiate from other folks doing landscape quilts & to satisfy my creative pic...turemaking. Thanks to Peter Boylan, I have a beautiful sunset over water to start a pastel work fromRead More

Janet Rosen That last one is done, and today I put the finishing touches on this one, and started another. I'm having a lot of fun!

Janet Rosen Eel River Study is close to being done. It needs to sit a couple of days for looking at. I especially enjoyed the way the pastels punch highlights into very dark areas (the forested hills on the upper right). Today I worked on it and also finished the "picture" section of a new quiltscape which will get its fabric framing over the next few days.
