John McEuen and friends - A night of Acoustic Music jamming to celebrate David Amram's 79th birthday.
City Winery
155 Varick Street
New York, NY
General Admission> $15.00
John McEuen brings us together to celebrate David Amram's 79th birthday! John will bring in bluegrass singer Jen Larson..., 4 string banjo ace Cynthia Sayer (doing some of her own set too), Martha Redbone and a cameo appearance by the Tin Pan Blues Band, (a group John met on the Joey Reynolds Show), and hot NYC banjo picker Jon Mark Fletcher. David with all his instruments and hot notes will continue to wow the crowd as he did last time... also sitting in will be members of the great New Jersey Jamband Railroad Earth (and Andy is bringing lots of stuff to play). Like a hippie Grand Old Opry, this acoustic evening of hot notes will be another memorable night at the City Winery.
David (www.davidamram.com) is an incredible musician who has played with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Willie Nelson to Pete Seeger. (David is known in the classical world as well as folk world. He was buddies with Jack Kerouac, has had his music conducted at Carnegie by Leonard Bernstein, and known more music than anyone I have ever met. )
John McEuen is a founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. His musical impressions from over 40 years of worldwide travels are brought to the stage with performing expertise that sets him apart from others as he focuses on acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle, and mandolin intertwined with storytelling.
During his 43 years with the band, John has constantly broadened his artistic pursuits with his solo performances, film scores, and solo albums - leading to reviewers giving him the nickname: “The String Wizard.” With the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, he has made over 30 albums, including the platinum-selling Will the Circle Be Unbroken. The NGDB has been nominated for four Grammys (winning two), six Country Music Awards (winning one), and have even won the Best Recorded Event award from the International Bluegrass Music Association. On his own, McEuen has also been honored with Emmy and Grammy nominations and won the Western Heritage Award. Most recently, John has produced Steve Martin's album of banjo music “The Crow” and has appeared with his old friend on American Idol (2009 season finale), Ellen, and the Grand Ole Opry. Come experience this once in a lifetime show.

John McEuen Perfect sound and lights, on-target promotion, a great staff, perfect dressing room (which even has wireless access)—these are all the things one looks for in a smaller club or performance situation. Well, all these things are found at the new hot spot called Nissi's. Nissi's also puts the performer in an unusual new s...tage situation for part of the show, when renowned journalist and radio personality G. Brown interviews the artist and fields questions from the eager audience—live right there, with the audience along for the ride.

Oklahoma City welcomed a new tenant to Bricktown yesterday, as American Banjo Museum relocated its operation from Guthrie. The museum, located at 9 E. Sheridan, fills a 21,000 square foot facility that was previously empty.

John McEuen The City Winery on Monday.. I am going to take advantage of this nice room for a pre-show 7 pm workshop (banjo and guitar) and will demonstrate some playing 'tricks', recording techniques, and playing live tips.. along with any questions you may have. This will all be covered by the price of a show ticket..

ahhh.. the best room in town, I am told by many.. Looking forward to a nice evening of acoustic music (with some friends dropping in) along with the stories around both the songs and road life .. most of it true.. NGDB favorites and '...Circle Be Unbroken' music....
