John Shore

John Shore (Tweet o' moi:) It's not possible to conceive of what you can't; so everyone's Brain Cup is full. So EVERYONE thinks they're a genius. Weird.

John Shore A long time ago (but, you know ... in this galaxy) my wife and I decided not to have children. Here's why.

John Shore

John Shore Soooo many of we Xtians are forever adamantly speaking up for God. I'd like to vote we sometimes also try clamming up for God.

John, if you're starting your own church for fun and profit, you should consider dropping the whole Christianity gig and inventing your own religion. It worked for L. Ron.

Tell you what, David. I keep the core of Christianity, lose the stuff I think needs to go, and appoint YOU my first Ambassador of Reasonableness. You in?

John Shore Believe in God ->read Bible ->feel you know God's mind and heart -> feel superior -> go out into the world ->embarrass God.

John Shore We Xtians need to remember: grassroots collective + meeting every Sun + all listening to one leader = marketer's wildest dream.

John Shore If you're over 50ish, you'll hear this: Remember how good music sounded when it WASN'T recorded to hear through ear buds?

Probably true for audio geeks, who were the antecedents of computer nerds. My father was rather passionate about reel-to-reel tape, a good turntable, hiss-free speakers, etc.

But the rest of us dealt with record players, which had belts and motors and needles and other variables that made the listening experience different for different people. My 45 rpm player probably spun about 40 rpm. For me, every song was a ballad, sung by altos or basses. (I'll never forget hearing "Whole Lotta Love" for the first time on anything but the 45 record I'd been given: my version was a lot more gritty.)

With the advent of iTunes, I can finally go back to buying music the way I always preferred: singles. Seldom have I found an entire album that I like to listen to start to finish. Given that a kind way of describing my musical taste is eclectic (less kind, weird), it's great to have a pocket device where I can listen to Beausoleil, Green Day, 3 Dog Night, Debussy, Cold Play, Linda Ronstadt, Electric Light Orchestra, Sugar Ray, Butthole Surfers, The Carpenters, Bowling for Soup, Queen, New Christy Minstrels, etc. without commercials, mixing them up or focusing on an artist, album, or genre at the spin of a dial. If I lose some of the low-lows or the high-highs, I probably wasn't listening to them anyway. ... Read More

Keep in mind that in the "good ol' days," we listened to a _lot_ of tinny AM car radio. A recent pleasure has been to actually understand some of the words in my favorite songs from the 60s and 70s, thanks to my iPod.

John Shore If you know the song, is it possible NOT to cry when comes the line, "And the moon rose over an open field"? Um. Not if you're me, embarrassingly enough.

"Spewed." As a Christian, I must object to the word.
