John Wind - Maximal Art If you are in Philadelphia this Saturday Nov 28, please come visit me at our annual Joan Shepp trunk show. It is typically my biggest trunk show of the season, with loads of special designs, charms, gifts, one-of-a-kinds, vintage pieces, etc. Joan was my first customer-- I met her in 1984 while I was still in art school and she has been buying the line ever since!!! Hope to see you then!
John Wind - Maximal Art It was 1930 and America was staggering under the weight of the Great Depression. George and Ira Gershwin wrote a 'pick me up' musical called GIRL CRAZY that gave us the hits I Got Rhythm, Embraceable You, and so much more. The Encores Series in NY is presenting a revival of the show this weekend, and we saw it last night. Pure escapist fun!

A press story (and an architecture one too): Yesterday Rhonda and I were in NY and met with Country Living, a Hearst magazine based in this incredible Norman Foster tower (built over an Art Deco base from the 30's!). From there we went to In Style, housed in the equally famous Rockefeller Center. I gotta say, it was ...exciting--the spaces, the energy, the pleasure of seeing magazines being put together with story boards and samples and organized chaos everywhere! John Wind - Maximal Art Back in the 80's we raised close to $100,000 for AIDS services by selling limited edition pins with Phila area retailers. Yesterday I met with a new group of energetic Philadelphia movers and shakers to create a 2010 version of the project. The big difference now is that it will also be available online! Spent the weekend in Western PA and visited 2 Frank Lloyd Wright houses--Kentuck Knob, and the deservedly world famous Falling Water. It was sublime!

Nicole Haddad I've been working at Maximal Art for a few months now in the production department, and what still amazes me is that EACH piece is hand-made. I literally spent one entire day hammering little metal letters and hand fitting them to tiny pearl earrings. It's not too often nowadays that you can find a product that has received such individual care and attention!
John Wind - Maximal Art Had a wonderful lunch today with the the style editor of Philadelphia Magazine. We ate at Parc, the French-style bistro on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, at a table overlooking the park, trees glistening with rain. Her name was Carrie. We talked fashion (with Rhonda, who was decked out in major new JW jewels...) Forgive me for thinking it was an episode of Sex and the City!

The materials include clear lucite chain and charms, gold 'daisies' with sparkle centers, and other gold-tone retro beads. The mood is 70's, resort-y, fun and feminine.
