The Sewing Store Happy New Year Everyone. Our stores close today at 3 pm and will remain closed until Monday morning for a brief mini vacation. Have a safe a happy New Year's Eve!

The Sewing Store Sewing Tip: I may have noted this before but repetition is good. If your thread is shredding prior to breaking it could mean the needle that you are using is too small, try a larger size. The friction from the thread going through the eye of the needle is possibly causing the shredding. That's the easy fix.

The Sewing Store Merry Christmas Everybody! We will be closing today at 3pm, sooner if the weather turns on us so please call 815-741-9553 to check status before taking the drive. Have a wonderful holiday with your families and friends.

The Sewing Store Shopping Tip: Today in our area the weather is supposed to get "iffy" this afternoon, so please call the store 815-741-9553 to make certain that we are open before driving in, we may be closed due to driving conditions. Thank you everyone!

The Sewing Store Sewing Tip: If you find that your thread is shredding before breaking it could indicate that the needle that you are using is too small for the thread size creating friction. It could also be from spray adhesive stabilizer build up. Keep a q-tip dipped in 70% alcohol at hand to cleanse the needle occasionally. You ...may also have needle strikes on your throat plate damaging the thread.

The Sewing Store Sewing Tip: One of my favorite tricks to using the rolled hem foot is to cut a little triangle off of the fabric, place a locked stitch of thread about 2 inches long at that edge to help you to get the fabric started into the scroll of the foot. Try it, it really works!

The Sewing Store Don't forget that some of our sewing machine companies are offering 36 months interest free financing on some models for a limited time just in time for the holidays!
