Jollyship the Whiz-Bang
Hello everybody. Long time no email from the puppetship.
That's all over.
I'm writing to proudly announce that, as part of the Under the Radar Festival, we are restaging a new version of our 2008 theater show "Jollyship the Whiz-Bang" for one night only at the Public Theater. If you missed the show then, or want to ta...ke the journey all over again, please save the date:
MONDAY JANUARY 11th:
JOLLYSHIP THE WHIZ-BANG:
A Pyrate Puppet Rock Odyssey
Created by Nick Jones with Raja Azar
Directed by Sam Gold
((AT THE MUTHA FRUMPIN PUBLIC THEATER!!)
AND NOW THE PLEA:
This show was a big success for us, and generated a lot of excitement from producers, etc. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, nothing worked out, and now we're back to self producing. The problem, or I should say challenge, now facing us, is how we are going to manage to produce the same show we did at Ars Nova in the Public Theater, given one day to load and tech. And no money.
The answer of course, is by assembling a talented team willing to work hard for nothing, and by raising money.
ESPECIALLY raising money.
SO MUCH MONEY we need, to rent a truss with lights, build a set, pay for performer travel (some people don't live in NYC currently), and everything inbetween. We are not being given any money to speak of by the festival, but doing the show at UTR is a huge opportunity for us, as it will allow us to be seen by national and international presenters.
The hope is that if we manage to pull this off, we can take the show on the festival circuit abroad. Which would be a dream come true, and something we honestly believe SHOULD be seen outside of New York.
So...This is my Holiday Plea. I know these are trying times, and we are competing with many worthy depositories for your Holiday generosity, but I want you to know, if you only give to one artistic enterprise this season...this one is pretty good. Also, please know, that none of the money we are raising is for fees. It is just to make the show look and feel good.
And what do you get out of this? Besides feeling looking and feeling good watching the show when you go to see it January 11th?
Actually, something pretty cool.
If you donate 40 dollars or more, we'll also pay you back, in the form of our new CD:
"Jollyship the Whiz-Bang: It's Not the Moon's Fault" which we plan to release at an afterparty in the Public, the same night as the show.
This album is a collection which includes the songs from the show, as well as other uncollected tunes recorded over the last few years. We're really proud of how this is sounding (and it has ADDITIONALLY cost us thousands of dollars) and we're happy to have an occasion to release it. What a night it'll be. I hope...
Please do what you can, if you can at all. All donations are tax deductible.
All donations can be made through the Terrible Baby Theater Company's fractured atlas account, and can be done so, online, immediately, here.
