Mojave Desert Land Trust

Mojave Desert Land Trust The Mojave Desert Land Trust will host a nature walk on Dec. 19, 2009 to familiarize the public with its campaign to acquire 955 acres of undeveloped private land for preservation. This beautiful and rare habitat at the base of Quail Mountain borders Joshua Tree National Park.

This property provides high quality habitat... for the threatened desert tortoise, bighorn sheep, mule deer, bobcat, gray fox, skunk, coyote, badger and mountain lion. Quail Mountain is the source of a unique canyon waterfall after a rain event. Hundreds of Joshua Trees cover the lower elevations and rocky slopes.

The leisurely walk, led by naturalist Pat Flanagan, Resource Advocate for the Land Trust, will take advantage of the quiet hours before sunset to observe the winter landscape and consider the adaptations and adjustments of desert plants and animals to seasonal extremes. There will be some surprising revelations.

This walk will be cancelled if it rains, but dress warmly and we will adjust our walking to the temperature.
