Julia London Oh peeps, I've had a helluva holiday. Xmas was great, New Year's even better with my nephew's wedding. Came home after three days of merry-making and learned a best friends had died. On Sunday, I attended the Dallas-Philadelphia game which was AWESOME (with all due respect to the Eagles, of course). On Friday I fly... to CA for the funeral. I need to resume a normal life. How was your holiday??

How can we complain/talk about our holidays when you lost such a dear friend? I stayed with my parents for two weeks and in the time the entire house was hit with the flu, except for me. I drank a lot.

hi Kelly. I am so glad you liked the book! Yep, there is more to come from Cedar Springs. But Christie is right -- Wyatt's story will be told down the line.

Julia London Doing laundry, some wrapping, and getting out all of the (prepackaged) ingredients to make my (just discovered)famous (and easy) broccoli salad for MIL's house tomorrow. I am hoping to find time to write in there, too. It's like exercise--lay off too long and I really have to crank it up to get into it again. Hope y...our day is pressure free and sane. Post if you need us to rally behind you :-)

Claudine, it's nothing to brag about. I found it online:

I am substituting edamame for peas.

Julia London Rethinking the whole, when-do-gifts-go-under-the-tree thing since the three year old likes opening them so much. I think Santa is going to dump the whole lot on Christmas Eve. How do you do it?

Packages from relatives go under the tree anytime, but packages from Santa stay hidden until everyone is asleep.

Julia London We did it -- we finished the gift shopping. Now they must be wrapped. I am thinking of a standoff with Jack London -- whichever one of us panics first gets to wrap

Congrats on the shopping - hope you win the wrapping standoff. I dragged my 18-year-old son to the Dicken's Fair today and then helped him finish his own shopping at a local street fair. Tomorrow will be combination cookie baking / wrapping day.

I can remember many many many years ago my first job in high school was wrapping Christmas Presents (for free) at Penney's.

Julia London Well I did it. I weighed today and yes, it was as bad as I feared. Think I will take Donna's advice and eat the rest of the Godivas so they aren't here to tempt me. HAHAHA. Off to finish up the Christmas shopping!

I like that plan. I need Godiva. *sigh* It would go well with all the chocolate cake I've been eating.

That's a plan, Julia. As we all know, candy/cookies and other normally high calorie items have 0 during the next 2 weeks. Enjoy the Godiva.

Julia London My dear friend sent me a box of Godiva chocolates and I have motored through about half of them. I can feel myself expanding. Do you know the average person gains five pounds over the holidays? I usually don't, but this year has been so cold and rainy that I don't think I am getting enough exercise, so it could be a... banner year. Do you gain, or do you manage to keep the weight off?

I can understand. With the cold and then rain, I haven't been out for my normal walks. But if candy is there I will eat it

My theory is you're going to eat them anyway, so why not eat the whole thing at once!!! Of course, this only works if you don't get ANOTHER box and eat it too!! I don't generally gain during the holidays because I'm "on guard" so to speak, but then lbs creeps on during Jan, Feb when I let my guard down!!!

Julia London I am feeling the clock ticking down. It's a different sort of biological clock, the kind that gets louder and louder the closer you get to the holidays. My nephew is getting married the following week, too, and I still have nothing for him and his bride. When am I going to squeeze it all in?

If he's getting married on New Year's Day like I did, you might remind the happy couple that there is no good place to celebrate your anniversary. Only thing open is Red Lobster. LOL

Julia London I balanced my checkbook this morning and had to go lay down. Kids, I can burn through some money around the holidays. I have no self-control. I realized it when I ordered that Venetian Santa from Neiman Marcus. Today, I promise to be better. How's your checkbook holding up? Single-handedly turning the economy around, or are you wiser and calmer than me?

Julia, of course you can be my friend. I do not drive the motorcycle I'm just my husbands passenger. We've taken acouple of real nice trips the last couple of summers. There is shop in Seattle we took it to and had the seats especially conformed for comfort of long rides. Gel seat and the back rest was made to fit just right. Last year we rode from Whidbey Island, Washingto to Mt Rushmore.

Julia London The three year old wants a fishing rod from Santa. that's cute. No idea where he got it. No idea where to get a kiddie fishing rod, which is what husbands are for. If only I could trust him to do ALL the Xmas shopping. What about your husbands (or wives?) Are they any help with holiday stuff?
