The C Minor Mass is widely regarded as his most ambitious and elaborate choral masterpiece. Mozart composed the Mass from the heart to fulfill a prenuptial vow. To him it wa...s entirely personal. Why he left it unfinished is a mystery. Even unfinished, "It has been rightly said that [the Grand Mass] is the only work that stands between the B Minor Mass of Bach and the D Major Mass of Beethoven." (Alfred Einstein (Mozart, His Character, His Work).)
