Based in Eugene, Oregon, Justin King and the Apologies released both their debut EP, Fall/Rise, and their self-titled debut full-length album in 2007.
Fall/Rise, recorded independently and engineered, produced, and mixed entirely by Justin, was recorded while the band was extricating itself from a disintegrating record deal with Epic records. The full-length album features the tracks that were recorded for Epic, some of which were produced by Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, Beck, The Vines, Guided By Voices) and Ron Aniello (Lifehouse, Barenaked Ladies), and some by Justin himself. The EP and album, recorded primarily at Justin's very own Blackberry Hill Studios in Eugene, as well as at studios in Los Angeles and Oakland, are the culmination of three years of writing, recording, and touring all over the country.
In addition to writing, playing and singing in the band, Justin is also an accomplished solo acoustic guitarist. Known for his innovative techniques and virtuosic style (always tempered with an overarching musicality), Justin has played all over the world. He has toured with Diana Krall and James Taylor and shared bills with Nickel Creek, B.B. King, Keller Williams, Mason Jennings, Al Green and others. He also released a CD of original songs and instrumental compositions entitled "Le Bleu," which was recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios. As if all this weren't enough, Justin is also a talented multi-instrumentalist; he plays guitar and piano live, and has played drums and bass on many of the band's demos, as well as on a couple of tracks on the album!
