Fontana opens its season with Kalamazoo favorite Pacifica Quartet in the highly anticipated final installment of their multi-year Beethoven cycle. Recognized for their virtuosity and exuberant performances, the Pacifica has carved out a compelling musical path. One of only two ensembles ever awarded an Avery Fisher Car...eer Grant, the Pacifica won a 2009 Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance. Ligeti’s first quartet is an unexpected link to the brazen modernism of Mozart and Beethoven, and the Pacifica Quartet brings us their unique take on these iconoclastic masters.

Kalamazoo, MI – October 20, 2008 – Fontana Chamber Arts announces a special ticket discount program to attract a new demographic of audience members. Beginning October 21, audience members ages 25 and under... will be eligible for $5 tickets for all Fontana performances. Concert attendees must show identification when purchasing tickets to take advantage of this special offer. For certain performances, there may be limited availability. This new promotion is an extension of Fontana's current $5 rate for students in grades K-12 and college. Regular ticket prices for adults range from $22-30 each.

Banquet of the Spirits features the tight new quartet led by maestro Cyro Baptista—the percussionist who has performed with everyone from Herbie Hancock and Yo-Yo Ma to Laurie Anderson, Paul Simon, and Wynton Marsalis. Cyro’s endless sonic curiosity and intense rhythmic drive has never been stronger in these imaginativ...e original songs. Featuring three of the best young musicians out of New York City, the music jumps from a whisper to a scream and never misses a beat.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Cyro Baptista arrived in the U.S. in 1980 and has since emerged as one of the premier percussionists in the country. His mastery of Brazilian percussion and the many instruments he creates himself, have catapulted him into world renown.
