
KU School of Allied Health Congratulations to Jill Windscheffel. Jill was recently awarded the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions Scholarship of Excellence. The scholarship recognizes outstanding students in the allied health professions who are achieving excellence in their academic programs and who have proven themselves as leaders in the community. Every year, only 5 excellence scholarships are awarded.

In recognition of this year's National Allied Health Professions Week (November 1-7, 2009), professionals from KU’s School of Allied Health and ancillary care departments of The University of Kansas Hospital will present a panel presentation at noon on Thursday, November 5. Posters reflecting the research of faculty an...d health care professionals will be on display in the School of Nursing Atrium from 11 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., as well.
The presentation, to be held in School of Nursing Building Room G013, will address aspects of care for a patient with coronary artery disease. The session should conclude around 12:40, allowing time for viewing posters in the SON Atrium before everyone has to get back to class. The first shipment of H1N1 flu vaccine arrived Tuesday. KU Hospital
received 500 doses of the nasal spray and 500 doses of the shot version
of the vaccine. The initial groups to receive the vaccine are employees
with prolonged, direct patient care in the E.R.,Respiratory Therapy,
Pediatrics/ICU, Ob/Gyn, Labor and Delivery ...and Postpartum. KUMC reports
there will eventually be enough vaccine for all employees to be
inoculated and announcements will be made when more vaccine is
available.

KU School of Allied Health On October 7, Teaching and Learning Technologies held its second annual open house. In addition to food and raffle prizes, those in attendance were able to learn about new and updated technologies currently being utilized by the KU Medical Center.

KU School of Allied Health Kudos to Mallory Smith! Smith, a third year doctoral candidate in the Occupational Therapy department at the KU School of Allied Health, has been named the first recipient of the Dr. Kathyln Reed Occupational Therapy Scholarship. The award provides a graduate scholarship for an occupational therapy student who has shown outstanding academic merit.

KU School of Allied Health Flu Update: KUMC students may get seasonal flu shots in Student Health starting on Tuesday, Oct. 20. As long as supplies last, seasonal flu vaccine will be administered throughout the fall semester and there does not appear to be any shortage of seasonal flu vaccine at this time.
