Veterans, service members, families and caregivers attended a free day of education on Traumatic Brain Injuries and Polytrauma presented by The Rehabilitation Institute in conjunction with Brain Injury Association. This very informative day included four presentations and several exhibitors to share available resources.

The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City A Day at the Lake took place Friday, July 10. This special event gives people who are paralyzed, without limbs or blind a chance to experience skiing and other water sports activities. The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City The Presidents and Past Presidents General Assembly, a women’s service organization, has generously supported The Rehabilitation Institute since our founding in 1947. After 92 years of service to the community, they are disbanding. With a final hoorah, they held a High Tea and donated to The Institute for the last time.... We want to thank them for their wonderful donations!
The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City Assurant Employee Benefits presented Mr. Gilbert Tuhabonye with their 2009 Shining Star of Perseverance Award. As part of the ceremony, he received an award designed by an Arts on the Hill artist. Following the ceremony, Mr. Tuhabonye arrived at the Institute to visit with and encourage our patients and clients. Afte...r the personal visits a reception was held at The Institute where Mr. Tuhabonye told his story and our friends from Assurant Employee Benefits made an exciting presentation. They presented The Rehabilitation Institute with a $10,000 gift. Thank you Assurant!

We are hosting Arts on the Hill - an exhibit that showcases, promotes and sells art by professional and emerging artists with disabilities. The exhibit draws more than 500 guests who view and purchase art. This year the exhibit is held at the Assurant building, a very nice an...d central location. Guests will be treated to our signature bacon bloody mary, beer and a variety of food samplings featuring, of all things, bacon! Musical entertainment and bacon cooking demonstr...ations are also included. We’ll also be holding bacon eating and pig calling contests. Did we mention all guests will receive a commemorative event t-shirt? That’s right, your $30 admission ticket gets you a signature bacon bloody mary, $10 in food and drink tickets, an event t-shirt and live music by Bacon Shoe.

The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City Thank you to Cerner Corporation Employees who came and helped paint, clean our facility and wash wheelchairs for community members. We also want to thank United Seating and Mobility who adjusted over 45 wheelchairs on Saturday! It was a great day!
