Yoon Mrs. Pequignot, I am unsure how much you listen to 90.7 (since I know Caitlin doesn't really listen to it), but I hope you can agree that the following could be considered as a detriment to a part of this nation's culture, if not a tragedy: "90.7 FM strengthens core news service, providing news 24/7 starting Friday at 4 p.m. Visit www.wmfe.org/radioschedule for more info."

Kathleen Marie Holshek Pequignot One of my favorite daily oil painters. Her bold brushstrokes really appeal to me. She is able to take a simple still life and infuse it with so much interest for the eye!

So, finally, I have the air time for our Dr Phil episode! It'll be Tuesday, Dec 1st. Here in Austin it plays at 3pm ... not sure if it's the same elsewhere. I'll actually be teaching in Sedona at the time, but someone will tape it for me. ...

Kathleen Marie Holshek Pequignot I just won this painting on Ebay from a folk/whimsical artist in Boca Raton, Florida. The colors are just delightful, and I love the city theme. It's fun to support other artists--I hope she gets more business and higher prices!!!! I think this painting will certainly make me smile... and someday, I'll be living in a city with a Central Park. ;)

I've had some small ATC-sized conceptual drawings that I have wanted to paint in acrylics for a long time, so I found three 8x10 gallery wrapped canvases in my studio closet and began the first one this morning while my internet was out of service. ...

Some days all you can get out is a quick sketch before dinner, but most of the time that is satisfying enough. Surprisingly, the simplicity of shapes and color fills the need to express a thought or feeling.

Kathleen Marie Holshek Pequignot Sketching at Starbucks...

I needed a high octane Venti Iced Coffee blast from Starbucks, so my daughter happily drove me for my fix. :) Ahhhhhh. Relief. Sketched this while we chatted and discussed her Stetson University essay.

Abstract ideas, scribbles, sketches... whatever. Just playing with paint, colored pencils, and ink. I'm having the best time this semester with no grad school classes. It's much more fun to play in the studio burning Asian Spice incense from Pier 1 Imports and drinking green tea. :)

Kathleen Marie Holshek Pequignot Journal play.

Time spent in the art studio today--playing with original carved rubber stamps, gluing collaged papers into the daily journal... add some watercolors and colored pencils. Finding the meaning. Life is good. :)

Kathleen Marie Holshek Pequignot Illustration Friday's challenge: GERMS... :)
Source: somanystars.blogspot.com
Illustration Friday challenge for this week was GERMS; I decided to use the oil pastels in another "organic" looking abstract to illustrate the theme in an abstract way. 6.5 x 4.5 oil pastels on Strathmore Pastel paper.

a daily painting... watercolor and ink botanical http://somanystars.blogspot.com/2009/10/ nature-mood.html

Instead of getting back to the abstract this morning, I decided to sketch a quick watercolor as a warm-up activity during today's studio time. I was more in the mood for a nature scene with some florals. ...

Started working on a new abstract... http://somanystars.blogspot.com/2009/10/ birth-of-abstract.html
Source: somanystars.blogspot.com
It always amazes me when I go through the birthing of an abstract. It's a combination of thought, experiment, and adaptation. Rarely is the original vision achieved as pictured in the creative mind; it takes great patience and trust to get to the final form. From pencil sketch to collage elements... ...

Kathleen Marie Holshek Pequignot My acrylics are all sitting here ready to go, but I had to be an over-achiever in the kitchen this afternoon, and now I'm making German Sauerbraten---this meal is taking forever. Hopefully I can paint more tomorrow. :(
