Keith Messina Here is a news story flying under the radar. As we listen to our politicians talk about another green stimulus, which is about as good as Cash for Clunkers, we see a story about fraud in Hadley Climate Center emails.

More grist for the global warming debate after a big climate-change center is hacked.

Keith Messina If anyone wants to read the actual report from the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program feel free to visit the link below. The report itself is long, but offers a good executive summary at the beginnig of what the TARP program is.

Keith Messina

Keith Messina Apparently those troubled assets that the government took care of with TARP weren't the trouble at all. This new finding almost makes it look like the House Financial Services Committee's new regulations might be misguided.

online.wsj.com
The Wall Street Journal writes that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has undercut the case for his own derivatives and systemic risk legislation. Mr. Geithner told the TARP inspector general that bailouts were not driven by AIG's credit-default-swap counterparties after all.
Keith Messina

Keith Messina Is the TARP program really helping the economy recover quickly? How about the fact that it let the government become a controlling interest in pay decisions that has lead to at least one large bank wondering who will be willing to endure this kind of scrutiny from the government in order to take the job of CEO.

money.cnn.com
Of all the headaches Bank of America faces these days, none is more painful than its ongoing quest to find a new CEO.

Keith Messina In response to the question which was asked of me,"Do you support universal healthcare?" I support getting everyone covered through the use of free-market initiatives, rather than mandatory enrollment and the type of federal government intervention, which are both unconstitutional. I do believe however that the McCarra...n–Ferguson Act which exempts insurance from federal antitrust regulation should be repealed as well.

haha what about the classic statement "well... i want everyone to be covered and i know we need healthcare reform, that's why i want a public option"

people need a little bit of education.

Keith Messina In response to the question which was asked of me,"Do you support gay rights?" I support the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, as it is unconstitutional because the federal government isn't afforded the power by The Constitution to make that decision. I also believe that same-sex couples should enjoy the same bene...fits as opposite-sex couples that are gauranteed under The Constitution.

What about the first amendment freedom of religion? marriage is a religious word. It's technically unconstitutional for the state/fed govt to have assumed authority over it in the first place as it offends the religious sanctity. If anything, you should support repeal of taxation and the marriage issue would drop away as the govt wouldn't care ... See Moreeither way what "marriage" meant. It belongs solely in the private sector for the churches to hash out, kid. as a republican, you should be wanting to preserve the freedom of religions, and be cutting back taxes. As you say you support the Constitution, maybe you should reread it in its most linguistic purity to figure out our founders never meant for legislation and repealing in matters of social and religious content. Only for FREEDOMS and upholding the Bill of Rights. While i admire your moxy for getting involved at such a young age, it is men like you who have little understanding of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as they were intended that caused this mess.

And indeed this is one of the ideas that I believe, that the only reason the word marriage is needed is exactly as you stated. If we took the word marriage out of our laws, then their would be no reason that the federal government should have anything to do with it. Even still, the federal government has no ability to create laws in this manner as ... See Morelaid out by the tenth amendment. I support simplifying our tax code in exactly the way you mentioned. There is no reason why we should have special deductions or tax credits for certain groups, as it distorts the tax code and allows it to be manipulated by our politicians.

Maybe I haven't spelled it out as clearly as I should have in the past, but the exact reason which you just stated is why the DOMA Act should be repealed. I know that everything can't be accomplished all at once, and the repeal of the DOMA Act is just the beginning of the plan to bring this country back in line with The Constitution.

I know you asked me my platform on the other page, I will post up a more detailed platform to my website, since it is apparently somewhat vague. I will also put up a plan on my site for bringing our country back in line with our Constitution this weekend, and I will certainly like to hear comments on it.

Keith Messina This video shows the problem with having the government as an interest in private businesses. In this video, near the end, Steve Rattner, the former Car Czar, talks about how the administration nearly decided to let Chrysler go under for the mere fact that it was a competitor against the company that the government was... a shareholder in, GM. By letting Chrysler fail, the argument was made, GM would be made more powerful in the market. What about conflict of interest?
