Hey Kia: I just read your blog update - Impefect love ... very thought provoking :) ... I suppose nothing can ever live upto the imagined illusions of love ... however i would like to cite my parents example of happiness (sad & cheesy) ... arranged, polar opposites, my dad is the most UN romantic man, my mum reads Mills & Boon novels to get her quota of love...
After 30 years together, i see abiding real everyday deep love ... i am not sure about many aspects (which i would rather not think about) of the relationship ... but i see something there which i aspire to possess some day ... compassion, trust, a meeting of 2 very different minds and a genuine desire to spend time with one another and compromise on one another's behalf ... yes they fight, but mostly (we the kids join in) and are part of the reason! That's love ... and the other stuff, that feels like butter sliding down hot hot toast ... that's just a bonus :)
Back to you: I would LOVE to read an excerpt of your new book

Dear Kia
Good points well made during the Radio 2 broadcast. I'm becoming more impressed by the minute - and hope that isn't misconstrued as patronising(!)
Keep up the good work.

Monsur Hi Kia, I haven't read your book yet but I'd like to. Brick Lane was awful and I didn't like White Teeth at all. good to see a bengali girl do well.

How are you? Progress is slow but I'm getting there. I've given myself a deadline of May 15th. It'll take a few months from there to hit the shelves. My publishers spoke about bringing it out later to hit the Christmas market but I don't think I want to compete with all the other tons of releases. I think September-ish should be ok.

Thanks for your message. I'm glad you agree with my sentiments. My 'It's Muslim men we must modernise' piece in the GUardian was a touch anti-male but I honestly do think that they have the power to bring about positive change. Here's hoping.

Hi lovely people,
Sorry I haven't checked in for a while. I'm sure you were all busy anyway with Christmas/New Year merriment (and subsequent back-to-work misery).

Thank you. The wedding was a bit of a disaster (discussed here: http://www.insidedesi.com/lifestyle/516/ coming-america/). The honeymoon had a shaky start too but turned out to be fantastic.

Thank you for your support. Please, pedant away. I actually asked my publishers if I could have a group rather than a page (inviting friends to be members seems more palatable than asking them to become 'fans'!) but I was told that a page is more appropriate. I'm glad you enjoyed the piece in the Guardian.

hi kia,
i must say having read about you in various articles on the web, i have found you to be a greatly intresting person. Having said that, i fully support your opinions for making muslim men modern. We are at this time passing from a time where political harmony among the muslims and the west is needed.
Muslims must realise that if we are to build ourselves we need to comply to the social norms of the society in which we live in.
Other than that, i hope on reading your books soon.

Probably feel more of a supporter than a fan at present (sorry to be a pedant), but was certainly impressed by the 'Face to faith' piece in the Guardian last Saturday.
So - yours, supportively.
