Kilgore College will host two campus-wide birthday parties to commemorate the college’s 75th Anniversary. The parties mark the beginning of a year-long celebration with events planned throughout the school year.
The first party will be on the Kilgore campus beginning at 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 14, in the Lee Mall on the Ki...lgore campus.
A similar party is set for 10:45 a.m. Sept. 15, at KC-Longview in the Special Events Room in the Longview North Building.
Free T-shirts, cupcakes, balloons and snow cones will be handed out at the parties. The public is invited to attend both events.
Leah Gorman, 75th Anniversary Committee Chairman, said that the 75th Anniversary festivities will be tied into several other annual campus events such as Homecoming, Rangerette Revels and awards banquets.
Also, the 75th Anniversary Committee is working on plans for the construction of a 75th Anniversary Plaza to be constructed in front of Old Main, the oldest building on campus.
Gorman said the committee will present plans for the plaza to the KC Board of Trustees at the board meeting Sept. 14, hopefully beginning construction by October.
KC first opened its doors on Sept. 13, 1935, with W.L. Dodson serving as the school’s president. The first year, the college enrolled 229 students.
Currently, KC has almost 6,400 students enrolled in classes and has grown nearly 15 percent since the same time last year.
Official enrollment numbers will not be available until Sept. 9, the twelfth class day. Read More

The Kilgore College Rangerettes will announce new freshman members Friday, July 24, after a week of pre-training and tryouts.
According to Dana Blair, Rangerette Director, there are 106 girls trying out for at least 30 spots on the line, the largest number to try out since 1990.
The new Rangerettes will be chosen by outs...ide judges, director Dana Blair and assistant director Shelley Wayne. The Rangerettes are returning 38 sophomores to the line.
The week began Sunday, July 19, with a get acquainted tea with Rangerette hopefuls and sophomore Rangerettes. Personal interviews followed in the Rangerette gym.
"Pre-training events during the week are open to the public," Wayne said. "Girls trying out will learn various routines during the week such as kick, jazz and studio combinations."
Pre-training will take place from 9 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday with breaks for lunch and dinner.
The week will also consist of a model night on Monday and a talent night on Tuesday where Rangerette hopefuls will compete in events, judged by outside judges. Model and talent nights are closed to the public.
Outside judges are also hired for the official Rangerette tryouts on Thursday morning where the girls will try out in groups of four beginning at 8 a.m. The official tryout is also closed to the public.
"We have outside judges for the tryouts on Friday morning, but they are different than the judges for model and talent nights," Wayne said. "Though we have judges hired, Mrs. Blair and I have the final say."
The Rangerette line will be announced at a closed meeting 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, in Dodson Auditorium.
A reception for all new Rangerettes and parents will follow 11 a.m. in the Devall Student Center. The new Rangerettes will return to campus Aug. 14 to move into the Gussie Nell Davis Rangerette Residence. Read More
