Coire Alpacas Our new paca shelter is arriving tomorrow - it's a tunnel tent that is supposed to withstand force 10 gales - let's hope so!

Coire Alpacas Been brushcutting some rhododendrons that have encroached on our spare (empty) paddock fenceline over the past year - no danger now so the pacas can be moved onto fresh ground as part of our mite control measures.

Coire Alpacas Pacas feeling much better after their mite treatment. Seem to be loving the addition of garlic flakes in their daily feed too! They smell mildly of garlic now.

Coire Alpacas One of the llamas we look after has been giving us a scare... she has been refusing to get up. It seems she has a hyperflexed, sore knee. She has had vet treatment and is a little better now. We hope she makes it.

Coire Alpacas Just been investigating garlic products for the pacas. I've been giving them crushed fresh garlic for intestinal health and parasite removal. Now I see that it can be a good source of selenium, the type that the body takes up easily. Works for humans too!

You can even get high selenium stuff, grown on high selenium soil! A bit like Brazil nuts; they are grown in high selenium conditions. Apparently broccoli is full of it too. But only garlic for the pacas of course.

Coire Alpacas Pen keeps the alpacas so calm - such a good investment!

Coire Alpacas The Easy Pen is fantastic! Treated one dam as a test run and it went well. But it's not suitable for frisky llamas - one jumped right out!

Coire Alpacas Putting the Alpaca Easy Pen up today - anyone good at flat pack? I am sure it will all become clear.....

Coire Alpacas Camel milk, anyone?

newsvote.bbc.co.uk
The Bedouin of the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula have long been convinced that the milk of camels can cure almost any internal disease, driving bacteria from the body.
Coire Alpacas

Coire Alpacas We think our downed tree is balsam poplar - native to West Coast of Canada. It has a particular smell and is thankfully not poisonous. In fact, the bark has asprin like qualities and the buds and leaves have worming properties. The llamas and alpacas have been eating it!

Coire Alpacas We lost Astra yesterday - she died suddenly. We have the vet coming to check the herd today and treat sore eyes due to mites.

Coire Alpacas Nifty made-to-measure raincoats. We are getting one for a llama we look after who is a bit cold

Coire Alpacas Some good tips. I read down to the part about blending alpaca and angora for the ultimate luxury fibre, then casually mentioned getting a few rabbits.... now daughter is running about shouting "I want bunnies, I want bunnies!"

I mean the rabbits not the cats! Although one is fluffy and would be great for spinning.
