Knoxville Overground Help spread the word! Today marks the 1-year birthday of Knoxville Overground! We incorporated on this day last year and were the first to bring to Knoxville a grassroots-powered entrepreneur community center and coworking workspace. We have also helped either facilitate or sponsor 140+ different events, seminars, work...shops, and conferences around Knoxville. What are some of your favorite memories?

We... See More’ve also been the first to initiate endeavors like Knoxville Twestival, 48 Hour Launch, the First Annual Knoxville Overground Startup Awards, the Overground Spring Gala, and Lunch 2.0 for starters while being 97% volunteer-powered with heart and enthusiasm. Inspired by other nonprofits such as The James Gang to Create Here, this is a grassroots movement for change and fostering innovation that has received institutional support for its various endeavors from Angel Capital Group, The Greater Knoxville Business Journal, Innovation Valley Partners, Microsoft, Everything Knoxville, First Tennessee Foundation, Technology 2020, to grassroots support from over 52 individuals, startups, and established small businesses in the Knoxville region. We’re grateful that the local media from “Opportunity Knox” on WNOX 100.3 FM to Metro Pulse, The Knoxville News-Sentinel, WATE TV-6, and WBIR TV-10 and others for the ongoing press coverage they’ve given us as we’ve been forging ahead to create a vibrant Knoxville that is redefining the new American dream and creating a community that welcomes and attractors innovators in the arts, culture, and business sectors regardless of whatever category they fall under.

All we can say is “thank you,” and … get ready for Year 2! After a year of researching best practices and preparation, we’re finally getting organized and things are about to take off. And get ready for some exciting announcements in the coming weeks – from information about our new location to what else we have planned for 2010. I’m excited! We the people are stepping up to the challenge of creating the Knoxville we want to see.
