The new S&W Grand at 516 South Gay Street provides a glimpse of an earlier era. The original glazed terra cotta art deco facade of the building, the only one of its kind in Knoxville, beckons alluringly, undeniably authentic and redolent of another time.

Those who live in neighborhoods with mature trees know what a positive feature they are to our streets, yards, and overall neighborhood appearance. Many historic neighborhoods have trees that have been around as long as the houses they surround.

OAK RIDGE - Three days after one offer to buy the dilapidated Alexander Inn unraveled, a new deal to purchase the historic structure has been reached.

Knox Heritage Great photos and a story in Knoxville News Sentinel that features yesterday's salvage sale. Watch for more sales and opportunities to find vintage treasures, some well-loved, to accent your home.

At first glance, it's just an old porcelain sink and pedestal - a little worn from years of use. But it's exactly what Josh and Megan Queener have been looking for.

If the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts decides it's time for a change, some local officials are hoping they'll consider a move to Knoxville.

Knox Heritage It's not too late for the Alexander Inn. What people need to remember (specifically those negative commenters on Knoxville News Sentinel) is that this project does not involve public money. It's a private sale. Even though Oak Ridge's Alexander Inn doesn't fit the definition of "historic" in some people's minds (not V...ictorian or Antebellum or Craftsman), it is more than 50 years old AND it is part of a very important story in our American History - the Manhattan Project. The Alexander Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and also one of 10 endangered places in the state by Tennessee Preservation Trust.

It is quite historical as it was left just as the day it closed with everything intact. Although there has been some vandalism over the years, it is still a piece of American History worthy of preservation.
