New Class of 2009 KAEF Fellows Honored at Kosovo Reception
Prishtina’s Restaurant Tiffany hosted a spirited reception on May 29 to honor the new 2009 Fellows of the Kosovo American Education Fund (KAEF) graduate program, and the donors who make it possible. Approximately 80 people were in attendance, including alumni o...f the high-visibility KAEF program, and the event was covered and featured on the KTV nightly news program.
KAEF activities always bring out some of the city’s most influential supporters, and this reception was no exception: Speakers included Thomas Yazgerdi, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy, Kosovo; Enver Hoxhaj, Minister of Education, Kosovo; and William Brown, Vice President for Development, American Councils for International Education. Ahmet Shala, the Minister of Economy and Finance, was also in attendance.
KAEF’s Class of 2009 are:
Albina Berisha, Azemine Demiri, and Njomza Rexhepaj - Business Administration
Pleurat Halili and Biserka Ivanovic - Public Administration
Artan Mehmeti - Economics
Rrezarta Veseli - Public Policy
Arianit Osmani - Law
Mr. Yazgerdi addressed the gathering, citing the importance of improving opportunities for young Kosovars, “and that includes going to the United States and bringing the expertise they will have gained there back to Kosovo to be a part of that future that will develop the country over the years to come. I am very impressed by the graduate students, and the fields they wish to pursue.” William Brown of American Councils was praised for his energetic commitment to seek support and awareness for KAEF from Kosovo’s business community, noting that in recent years, KAEF has attracted substantial philanthropic support from companies including Birra Peja, Dukagjini, PTK, Meridian, MDA, TEB, ProCredit, VEV Group, Restaurant Tiffany, Kujtim Kervishi, Emin Fetahu, and the Kosovo Bankers' Association, as well as a major grant from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Donors were honored with not only certificates of appreciation, but distinctive plaques made of crushed minerals spelling out the “kaef” logo.
