Hello members of the linguistics dept! I am an alumnus from the class of 2006, and linguistics was definitely my favorite non-major series during my undergrad years. I have a favor to ask. Can anyone recommend an article/paper that supports the idea that children are especially equipped for learning multiple languages?... I have a good friend in grad school who's teachers are not convinced that her daughter (4.5 years old) should be exposed to French on top of the Spanish and English she is currently learning. They fear that she might "mix the languages up." I know...absolutely not true! But I need the papers to prove it. Thanks a mucho in advance!!! =]Read More

Andy Kehler A paper entitled "Eye movement evidence that readers maintain and act on uncertainty about past linguistic input", by Roger Levy (UCSD Linguistics), Klinton Bicknell (UCSD Linguistics), Tim Slattery (UCSD Psychology), and Keith Rayner (UCSD Psychology) is now in press for the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Congratulations guys!

Roger All in all, nine presentations at the LSA Annual Meeting for UCSD, and 42 for the University of California as a whole. That is over 10% of the scholarly output in the premier annual scholarly meeting for the scientific study of language. Just one more example of UC's greatness.
