Matthew's Galleries
Estate collection of Louis Schaff. He was an east coast transplant, who came to Portland in the early 1940s. Schaff loved music, dancing and people watching.He never sold a painting while he was alive, and never wanted to. Scaff was academically trained, he was into experimenting with all media; including, oil, waterco...lor, gouache, encaustic, clay, metal, wood, and many others. He even used his wifes red lipstick in a few paintings. Almost all of his paintings were genre, including scenes of figures in restaurants, bars, dance halls, and parades. A true artist's artist.
