Preschoolers: practice OWN beat and EXTERNAL beats in variety of ways This week, the students in the Imagine That! class kept a beat by using their arms and bodies to “See Saw, up and down, in the air and on the ground”.

Music Connections Music is the steady beat of your heart. Music is the varied rhythm of your actions. Music is the constant flow of the blood through your veins. Music is the cyclic phrasing of your breath. Music is the raw tempo of your emotions. Music is the complex texture of your thoughts. - Ella Jenkins (one of my heroes)

Music Connections In addition to the ways to "catch a beat" with your babies, this blog posting focuses on additional fun ways to help your toddler and walker experience beat and develop their own. PLEASE SHARE: What is your child's favorite way to CATCH a beat?

Toddlers continue to EXPERIENCE beat, and practice movement, and they are developing a beat of their own, but are typically not yet ready to match the beat of recorded music. It is better to match the beat of the song to the steady beat they use.

Music Connections Once you've learned ABOUT steady beat in the first blog, this one expands on ways YOU can help your BABY experience and develop Steady Beat.

Lap Babies and Crawlers must EXPERIENCE beat in a variety of ways.

Music Connections Developing steady beat is an important focus of almost every Kindermusik class. I developed a blog posting a couple of years back that really consolidates the information that is helpful to know as a parent of a young child. It is one of my most popular postings, and has been used by other educators for teacher training, and parent info. Feel free to share.

A STEADY BEAT is an unchanging continuous pulse. This is different from the Rhythm Patterns of a specific song.

was hoppin' & boppin', singin' and swingin' at the Mega Monday for Moms at Explorations V Children's Museum today. I had my music pit out, and was giving away FREE CDs. It was fun to catch up with some Kindermusik friends, and very interesting to meet some fun new personalities. If you live in Lakeland, THIS Childre...n's Museum is a MUST HAVE membership. It's only $60 for the whole family for the whole year, and it is WORTH IT every time you go play in their 3 floors of fun. Look for the Dragon Of Toys (named DOT). I helped create her body's toy collage during the summer of 2000 - the year of the dragon!Read More

Music Connections “When a child learns by experience that music forges direct links between self and world, self-expression becomes more fluent; the music helps interpret ‘who I am’.”-” Growing up Complete”, the report of the National Commission on Music Education
