The constitution has been dead for much longer. When exactly is open to debate but I would suggest that it died with the Civil War. Obama is bad (and in many ways worse than Bush) but both Bushes blatantly and consistently paid little regard to it either.

The Constitution didn't fail at all. The people failed it.

right. no gun control, no abortion control, no marriage control. the government does NOT have the right to tell you what to do. it's job is to protect induvidual liberty, not dictate a moral or religious agenda. however, i agree with enough of mr. kilgore's beliefs that i will vote for him. you should too.

No, they didn't want independence. They essentially tried to invoke a States' Right that didn't exist and you see what happened with that.

Texas can try to secede, but it won't get support from the rest of the states in doing so. If it declared it's independence (invoking it's own state constitution in doing so), it might receive more recognition of it's actions. Having been a nation unto itself from 1836 to 1845, it's claim would hold more validity than if, say New York, attempted such an action.

And, there are secession movements now and secession movements that have failed. Secession is not always allowed, while a serious Declaration of Independence is a more severe statement and is almost always followed by war (the Czechs and Slovaks being the notable exception).

It obviously started much earlier but the secession was brought about by the election of Abraham Lincoln in November 1960, who ran on a platform which included restricting slavery to the states in which it was presently allowed and not to allow it to expand to the territories.

That was viewed as a States' Rights issue (and it could be argued ... See Moreeither way) by most (but not all) states where slavery was allowed. South Carolina viewed this as an attempt to limit economic activity and much of the states that eventually made up the Confederacy had politicians that felt the same way. The belief was that limiting slavery to those states would eventually come to an end because economic pressures would demand it.

In essence, they saw the writing on the wall and would not sit by idly while their economic reality was changed. They chose to pass and ratify the Ordinance of Secession and then fired the first shots which started the war. Up until that point, no actions were taken by the federal government that is legitimately allowed to put down domestic violence as prescribed in Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution.

Why would anyone listen to the VOA? Aren't they the US government broadcast medium that is beamed into enemy nations or nations where we have troops for local consumption that attempts to paint our military actions in a good light?
